Junior League Accepting Scholarship Applications

Applications are now being accepted for the Junior League of Wheeling’s Linda Bordas Scholarship. Three young women exemplifying leadership and volunteerism will be chosen as recipients of the $500 scholarship.

Holiday Paint and Sip with Moon River Studios

Support the Junior League of Wheeling by attending our Wine Glass Paint and Sip. $30 per person includes wine glass and painting instruction by Moon River Studio. Snacks will be provided and alcohol will be available for purchase at the River City bar.

Anyone interested in attending the Wine Glass Paint N Sip will need to contact Emily Freeman at 304-312-4767 or emily.freeman@raymondjames.com to pre-pay. We have to submit a final number to Moon River Studio to help her prepare. No walk-ins.

Junior League of Wheeling Celebrates 80 Years of Support

Members of the Junior League of Wheeling stand together after the organization began its 80th year of supporting women and children in the greater Wheeling area. The League appointed new members to its board in May, and it plans to expand its current programming and collaborate with organizations including the House of the Carpenter and Crittenton Services.

Junior League of Wheeling Prepares for "Affair with Emerald Flair" Fundraiser

The Junior League of Wheeling will present “An Affair with Emerald Flair” at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Wheeling Artisan Center, 14th and Main streets. Profits from the event will support Junior League programs, including “Girl on Fire” — a program that strives to build confidence and self-esteem among girls in middle school and high school.

Junior League of Wheeling sponsors Nonprofit & Community Leaders Breakfast, Brave Miss World showing at Highlands

It took 10 years for former Miss World Linor Abargil to gather the courage to tell her story of survival after being abducted, stabbed and raped at the age of 18.

Her story is the subject of an award-nominated film, “Brave Miss World,” directed by Cecilia Peck.

In addition to sponsoring the screening at the Highlands, the Junior League of Wheeling hosted a Nonprofit & Community Leaders Breakfast November 8 at Wheeling Park. Cecilia Peck delivered the keynote address followed by a panel discussion. Panel members included Shawn Fluharty, WV House of Delegates; Lori Jones, Executive Director of the YWCA Wheeling; Chief Schwertfeger, Wheeling Chief of Police; Melody Osborne, Adolescent Health Initiative Coordinator, Marshall County FRN; and Ashley Garlow, Executive Director, Sexual Assault Help Center. 

Kathy Fortunato Service Award presented to the Junior League of Wheeling

Mayor proclims June 21 as Junior League of Wheeling Day

On Tuesday, June 21, 2016, Junior League of Wheeling members gathered at Wheeling's City Council meeting to receive an official proclamation from Mayor Andy McKenzie. In recognition for JLW's tireless efforts to revitalize the Janie S. Altmeyer Playground, the Mayor officially deemed June 21, 2016 as Junior League of Wheeling Day!
